The course uses exercise to music to help improve and maintain general health and well-being both physically and mentally. This term we will be building on the routines and rhythms of dance learnt to further improve general health and well-being. For all abilities and disabilities including wheelchair users.

Course aim

To use dance as a form of exercise to help improve and maintain ones general health and well-being and to keep ones mind active.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop ones own method of remembering a routine and repeatedly perform all routines learnt using this method - understanding that to make a mistake is acceptable.
  • Using ones chosen method of remembering, perform all routines learnt confidently - "dance like no one is watching"
  • Recognise and record on SLR one mental health benefit and one physical health benefit that has improved during the course.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Loose layered clothing and good supportive footwear.
