Italian Advanced

This course is aimed at people who have an advanced understanding of the Italian Language but keen to develop it further. The course will focus on oral, listening and speaking, but also reading and writing, so that the student will be able to communicate effectively. The sessions will cover different topics designed to broaden the learner's understanding of Italian society, culture and lifestyle.

Course aim

This course will enable you to develop your language skills and will equip you with the confidence and the appropriate knowledge to understand and to communicate in Italian at an advanced level

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Being an ongoing course, passato prossimo, imperfetto, futuro, condizionale and congiuntivo have been already covered. If you are joining the class this term, it will be useful to know all of these things. If you want to check your level, ask the WEA to put you in contact with the tutor.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • use indirect speech
  • Talk about a few Italian Regions (history, cities and culture)
  • Talk about and discuss Italian news, expressing points of view and react to other people's opinions
  • Demonstrate an understanding of written material in Italian and express an opinion
  • Demonstrate an understanding of a spoken passage on a TV show and express an opinion

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • It would be helpful to bring lined paper and a pen. If you have an A4 sized ring binder this will be useful too

Pre-course work, reading and information sources
