Explore what growth means and how this can impact on your health and wellbeing. Make a group sculpture that grows week by week and make a garden that is both edible and decorative. This course is for HFT service users only and is not open to the public.

Course aim

To explore the concept of growth through sculpture and gardening projects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for students who attend a specific centre only. For more information please call 0300 303 3464
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use techniques and processes. Learn how to build a sculpture using cardboard using movement of the body as an example. Learn how to weave a decorative plant pot, and provide survival for edible and decorative plants.
  • Use design. Use images and pattern to design creative elements.
  • Explore health and wellbeing. Use creative activity to recognise and develop wellbeing
  • Use health and safety. Understand and use health and safety practice in sessions.
  • Develop activties alongside staff at your venue to support and further your learning.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be offerred the opportunity to extend creative activity at the venue with the support of staff

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Be supported to access other creative opportunities in the local area, develop confdence outside the existing setting.
