You will be encouraged to move with care for your own body and to find Inner Calm.

Course aim

This course will focus on encouraging stability by maintaining a neutral spine, learning to move from the inside out and develop subtle core awareness. We will focus on Tadasana ( Mountain Pose) and Dandasana (Staff Pose), and The Cooling Breaths.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • demonstrate stability in postures by maintaining a neutral spine, finding natural lift and subtle core awareness.
  • practice and understand the Mountain Pose and how this connects with all Standing Postures.
  • practice and understand The Staff pose and how this is the foundation of other Seated Postures.
  • move from the 'inside out', moving into postures from your centre - don't let your arms lead you into asana.
  • describe the feeling of enhanced inner calm through the practice of The Cooling Breath Techniques - an ideal practice in the warmer months.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be given continuous support and feedback throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • A Yoga mat and you may want to bring a blanket for the relaxation.
