Yoga is a holistic practice that improves your strength, flexibility, sense of vitality and well being. Each class will include the practice of gentle stretches that ease tension, a range of asanas to build strength and flexibility, breathing practices often coordinated with movement that help to calm your mind. All classes include a Deep Relaxation which will help to relieve stress and also replenish your energy levels. Practices can be tailored to suit your individual health needs, everyone is welcome. You will be encouraged to move with care for your own body and to find Inner Calm.

Course aim

We will focus on Dru Yoga inspired sequences that improve flexibility, ease stiffness and uplift mind and body. We will use chairs/the wall to enhance and support our practice, practices to stretch our hip flexors and Calming breath techniques.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • practice flowing sequences that ease tension, calm and focus the mind and uplift mind and body.
  • describe and understand how the wall and/or a chair can be useful props to enhance and support you in different Yoga Postures.
  • practice exercises and poses that help to stretch the iliopsoas muscle, helping to ease back tension and improve posture.
  • understand how to be kind to your neck and shoulders, paying attention to their comfort in postures.
  • demonstrate a range of Calming Breathing Techniques, learning to still the mind.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be given continuous support and feedback throughout the course.

What else do I need to know?

  • A Yoga mat and you may want to bring a blanket for the relaxation.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you book. Please could we ask that you check the list below to ensure you meet our basic criteria:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
