Scrapbooking to Explore Health and Wellbeing

On this course you will be introduced to Scrapbooking or have time to build on your existing skills in the craft. Pages for a scrapbook will be produced using your own photographs, memories and memorabilia as you focus on the creative process. You will have pages for a book to be proud of and a keepsake to treasure.

Course aim

This short course will provide an introduction to the craft of Scrapbooking. You will focus on being creative as you display photographs, memorabilia and their memories in the form of pages for a scrapbook

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • gain confidence by learning a new papercraft skill that I can feel proud about and also continue to use at home if I choose to
  • develop my social skills by being part of a group, by sharing my ideas and the work I make with them and offering peer support
  • to focus on creating pages for my scrapbook, as a positive distraction to daily life and as a way to document positive memories and achievements in my life

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • you will need to provide a scrapbook but this can be bought at a later date and with the tutors help

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
