This 10 week course is only for families of children attending Chiltern Primary Academy. It is a relaxed and informal session where adults and children can share making or work alone. This term we will be making a range of puppets, from simple finger and sock puppets to cone puppets and even string puppets, all with some element of stitching involved

Course aim

This sewing club is an opportunity to share sewing/craft skills as a family unit as well as with other families and friends. This term we will focus on making a range of puppets

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Design and make a puppet from a range of methods
  • Increase my understanding of puppets in various cultures
  • Create a robust puppet that could be used in a performance

How will I be taught?

  • This is a fun social course where all the work is practical and new tasks will be set most weeks.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
