On this course you will learn how to: Use power tools such as jigsaws and drills safely. Work accurately. Chose the right tool for the job. Cut and join wood to make items for the home.

Course aim

To build confidence in the safe and effective use of hand held power tools for woodwork and DIY projects

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work safely with power tools
  • Know what tools to use for which task
  • Cut accurately and neatly
  • Use a drill and cordless screwdriver
  • Join wood

How will I be taught?

  • • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • • There is no formal assessment. Your tutor will monitor your progress and give advice or assistance as required.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • • Please wear old clothes and stout footwear. ( No sandals or flip flops please)

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
