A positive and supportive course which will explore several ways of improving personal confidence and well-being using practical activities and group and paired discussions. The course will be inspiring and also a lot of fun!

Course aim

To build on knowledge and skills gained through previous learning and apply it to various situations which will demonstrate the use of confident behaviour. To improve personal health and well-being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Adults who are taking part in the Action Towards Inclusion project

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe positive ways of dealing with situations when confidence has been knocked
  • Explain how to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Outline the steps you would take to deal with a problem / situation.
  • List three helpful ways of taking care of yourself and staying healthy
  • Create a personal action plan to improve confidence and well-being

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will identify your personal learning goals at the start of the course and review them with the tutor at the end, making an action for your next steps.

What else do I need to know?

  • No need to bring anything but some people find it helpful to bring a notebook and pen to jot down useful information.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Tutors will provide handouts and information about further reading and research
