This course aims to build skills to allow students to study towards working in the construction industry. It will aim to boost students confidence, give them the language tools necessary to be able to access content around this subject. It will look at the rules and regulations in England and what steps students would need to be able to work in this field.

Course aim

The course is for refugees who have expressed an interest in accessing further courses in the construction industry. This will be the starting point of their construction tuition before accessing further college courses in the same industry.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This is a course in partnership with the refugee council. For more information about your suitability, please contact the refugee council.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Be able to state some of the definitions of the key words for working in the construction industry
  • To gain a knowledge of some of the rules in place for working in construction in the UK
  • To understand what skills and qualifications employers are looking for.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
