Ever fancied making unique accessories for your home or wardrobe then is is the course for you. Using a variety of techniques you will learn felt-making, embroidery, knit, appliqué or a combination of these to make items to adorn your home, to give as gifts, or to wear. By developing a personal approach to design and gaining a better understanding of colour, pattern and texture you will build a body of work that is personal, unique and will set you apart from those who only have shopping to express themselves. Know what you want but can't find it ,then heres your chance to make it. We have a great studio space and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for like minded people to share their ideas. Great fun for all abilities. with the introduction of tie-dying and batique silk decoration for the new year
Course aim
this course is a brief introduction to the huge world of textiles; we will have a go at felt-making, and the applied arts to make accessories that will grace any home or indeed fashion parade such as (cushions, bowls, scarves, jewellery, bags, etc)
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- use a minimum of two textile techniques (felt-making, embroidery, appliqué, button making, stitch, felted knit)
- develop a better understanding of colour by learning about the colour wheel and colour mixing.
- use the correct terminology
- develop a personal approach to design.
- understand and adhere to health and safety appropriate to textile production
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
