Gentle Exercise

A safe and effective gentle exercise course focusing on health and functional fitness. Each week will contain a top to toe warm up, aerobic routines including line dancing, strength exercises with resistance bands or exercise equipment and a cool down which includes Tai Chi movements, stretching and relaxation. Alternatives and adaptions will be offered to ensure everyone can participate. An enjoyable class in a friendly environment.

Course aim

A fun and enjoyable gentle exercise course suitable for all. Exercises to increase fitness levels and improve health and wellbeing through improving balance, co-ordination, strength and reducing stress.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise the need to be physically active throughout life and how this can change due to health related circumstances.
  • Feel the benefits from attending regularly and participating in gentle exercise.
  • Recognise which areas of my health and functional fitness have improved (such as balance, co-ordination, mobility) and which exercises have helped (such as aerobic, band work, circuit)
  • Share and discuss their experience of taking part in physical activity, what they have enjoyed and why and how participating has impacted on them and their health.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Wear suitable comfortable clothing and footwear. Contact tutor for further information if required.

  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
