To converse confidently & spontaneously with German native speakers in realistic tourist situations using authentic materials. Resources include internet, language games, German leaflets & audio.Meet new friends & enjoy conversing in German in a relaxed atmosphere. Topics include eating out, using public transport, German celebrations & festivals, tourist attractions & watching a German film

Course aim

To consolidate & refresh German knowledge & gain insight into German culture. Extend language skills by increasing vocabulary & learning grammar to enhance spontaneous communication. Immersion in the German language Have fun! Meet new friends.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This course is for improvers
  • Would suit someone who has studied GCSE German or who has lived & worked In Germany or who has German relatives or family who live in Germany

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Order food & drink in a restaurant/café & recognise German specialities.
  • Use public transport confidently when travelling in Germany
  • Discuss German celebrations & festivals
  • Watch the German film Goodbye Lenin & discuss it
  • Cope as a tourist visiting tourist attractions in Germany

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • Most of your learning will take place in your class, but one or two sessions will be online using WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, working by yourself or engaging with other students.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Oral & written feedback

What else do I need to know?

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
