Picturing People at the Leeds Art Gallery

Ref: C3676985

This is the first of a triptych of taster courses at the Leeds Art Gallery, loosely organized around 1) People, 2) Places, and 3) Things. “Picturing People at the Leeds Art Gallery” looks at portraiture and other forms of expression featuring people as art subjects by looking at the work of artists like Lubaina Himid, Paula Rego and Stanley Spencer, among others. But we will also consider the people who look at art. Who looks and why? Who is looked at? Who are the people who gathered this collection? LAG is a civic art gallery. How does the gallery reflect the values and interests of the people of Leeds? These and other questions will guide us through two This taster course will involve micro lectures, seminar discussion and also an exploration and rediscovery of the gallery itself.
