The workshop will use group activities to focus on the various contributions black people have made to world history from ancient to modern times

Course aim

This workshop, is an informal , fun and activity based looked at the contributions of 'Black' people. It is aimed at anyone with an interest in the subject and families with people of African heritage including mixed heritage families

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1/ Identify some of the many contributions of Black women and men to world history.
  • Recognise how pioneers of African descent, contributed to the fields of science, invention and technology.
  • Identify some of the Great Ancient African civilisations.
  • Appreciate the antiquity of Black peoples

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • Bring an open mind and your enthusiasm

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • All our courses are based on the work of Robin Walker and his book 'When we ruled' You are encouraged to read the book, before, during and after the course.
