Consolidate your previous knowledge of the Spanish language, develop your vocabulary and basic expressions to talk about daily life and what you do and like doing when on holidays. Learn how to ask and give information about places of interest and how to express your opinion. Understand and use key phrases when inviting people , accepting and declining invitations or apologising, whilst improving your pronunciation developing your confidence practising your speaking and listening skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Course aim

To consolidate previous knowledge of Spanish and develop students' confidence using the language, introduce them to more sentence structures in the Spanish language whilst enhancing their knowledge of the culture of the Spanish speaking world.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Talk about daily life activities and how often we do things.
  • Talk about hobbies and interests using the verb 'Gustar'
  • Ask and give information about places of interest and express your opinion (use of comparisons)
  • Talk about future plans
  • Understand and use key phrases to use when inviting people, accepting and declining invitations.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • The tutor wil provide you with a list of resources for the course. Students need to bring a notebook and pen/pencil. A dictionary will be very helpful.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Revision of basic phrases for personal information and finding your way around will be helpful. You can also look at the simple present tense conjugation of the verbs: trabajar, comer, vivir or any other AR/ER/IR ending regular verbs.
