Women's Land Army and Lumber Jills

Learn how the WEA are looking to promote a South Yorkshire wide project about the women's role in the Land Army and Lumber Jills of WW2 (and any information on WW1 connections). There will be a short presentation on the project so far and an opportunity to explore ways in which you can participate.

Course aim

A taster session exploring the role of the Women's Land Army in WW1 and 2. This session will inform the consultation process to help us understand how students might participate and what to include in the project we are proposing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • Consultation for the project and how volunteers can be involved. Form ideas from participants and how these can be incorporated in the activities.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • How the project is developing
  • How volunteers can help, what skills may be necessary and potential skills training
  • Who the WLA are and how they operated in the SY area

  • Consultation process

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Talking to family and relatives, potential to discover stories and artefacts of interest

What can I do next?

  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
