On this course you will learn the basic skills needed to do simple woodwork tasks around the home or garden. You will make some simple items to take home with you.

Course aim

To give participants confidence in undertaking small domestic and garden woodwork projects. To increase practical skills and awareness of safe working practices. To encourage participants to consider further practical courses.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Measure wood accurately
  • Cut wood safely
  • Use a drill
  • Use nails and screws correctly
  • Choose wood for projects

How will I be taught?

  • You will take part in a range of different activities with your tutor and the other students in your class

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • There is no formal assessment. Your tutor will monitor your progress and give advice or assistance as required.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed, all materials will be provided Please wear old clothes and stout footwear. ( No sandals or flip flops please)

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
