Poetry is a powerful way to connect with emotions and can help to refresh and restore balance. This is a creative workshop where we will read a variety of published poems to inspire new writing. All welcome - no experience necessary.

Course aim

This is a taster session where we will read a variety of uplifting poems. There will be writing exercises to produce new poems as well as discussion about how poetry can help with our well being.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • All welcome - no experience necessary.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write a new poem on the subject of well being
  • Read and appreciate published poems relating to well being
  • Know how to access poems on the internet to improve well being
  • Feel more confident in reading and writing poetry

How will I be taught?

  • There will be writing exercises to help you to produce new poems. We will share our thoughts on published poems. There will be the opportunity to read and share our writing.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a notebook or writing paper and a pen or pencil.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
