On this course you will gain knowledge and understanding of life in Britain today. This will include learning about British customs and values, British history, laws and about the different countries that make up the United Kingdom. The course is 10 weeks long and it is desirable that learners have got at least Entry 2 level ESOL in order that they can understand the content and be able to participate by speaking and listening and also reading and writing.

Course aim

On this course students will learn about British values and customs, gain knowledge of British history and culture and understand the different countries that make up the UK.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • describe the Parliamentary system of the Uk and know how to contact your MP.
  • understand some aspects of British law.
  • list British customs and values.
  • demonstrate understanding of British history.
  • list the different countries and peoples in the UK.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Please bring pens and paper
