Spanish - Advanced

This course is suitable for learners who are at an intermediate level of Spanish, having already studied formally at beginner level or having other substantial informal experience of using Spanish. Structures and vocabulary which have been studied previously will be developed and looked at in greater detail using practical everyday themes as well as cultural topics. The subjunctive tense will be introduced and expanded upon, giving students opportunity to express wishes, impersonal expressions, doubts, emotions and uncertainty using various themes such as art, music, literature and current affairs.

Course aim

The purpose of this course is to offer an opportunity to intermediate learners of Spanish to consolidate and expand their current knowledge of the spoken language, grammar and vocabulary which they will already have studied a beginner level.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is for learners who have completed a beginners course in Spanish or who have substantial experience of speaking the Spanish language already.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Read articles about various topics and feel confident in expressing opinions about them.
  • Understand short radio and internet clips which deal with current affairs and other themes.
  • Speak about media, art, literature using phrases which express probability, wishes and recommendations.
  • Speak about familiar topics and take part in group discussions with some spontaneity.
  • Enhance knowledge of Spanish speaking cultures, traditions and countries .

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A bi-lingual can be handy for this course.
