A fun and friendly family course offering the opportunity to get creative with fabric's and sewing. During the session families will have the opportunity to make a shared project or to create individual pieces, the theme of the session will be soft toys, small pillows, pin cushions or create your own unique designs. All materials are provided including fabric's and patterns.
Course aim
To promote family engagement with the activity of sewing with a view to applying the skills learnt on future projects at home.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Complete a basic sewing task.
- Use a paper pattern to create a sewn project.
- Improve design and decision making skills.
- Taken part in a shared activity.
- Explored materials with different textures, patterns and styles in the design process.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
What else do I need to know?
- All materials will be provided
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

- No pre reading or pre course work is required
What can I do next?
- Progress to another WEA course
- Progress to a course with another provider
- Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
