We will make individual crafted pieces (flowers, pea pods and leaves) using wet felting techniqes that will be put together to make mobiles or 3d wall hangings. Individuals will explore different techniques to fashion a variety of flora; working with different colour combinations to learn about colour mixing. Discover more about the natural world is key to this course helping with communication, and ultimately to build confidence in personal choices. The different individual felted parts will be crafted together using different textile techniques ( embroidery, Appliqué, stitch) to make larger pieces of work or conversely working in detail to make smaller jewellery like accessories. Fun for everyone, enabling a wide variety skills that could be the start of a new way of working.

Course aim

This course will introduce learners to the art of felt making to create personal variations on the course themes. 3d felting Flowers, bugs and birds; 2d felting images for wall hangings, placemats etc

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • to work with colour confidently
  • share ideas and skills
  • make two different examples of wet-felted flora
  • sew and aplique
  • use the correct terminology

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
