This course will introduce learners to print-making; through a process of drawing and applying textures (fabrics, wall-papers, string). we will look at how to produce a self-potrait, create tonal values and interesting surfaces to make a printing plate (collograph). Printing with water based inks the results can be developed and manipulated to offer variations on the same theme and often produce work that has a more professional finish as the work progresses. great fun with fabulous results.

Course aim

Working with traditional print-making techniques this course will introduce learners to collograph and textured plates to create interesting and lively self-potraits.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • be able to produce a self- portrait drawing
  • apply textures to make a plate
  • use printing techniques
  • work safely in a studio environment
  • use and apply technical terms.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

  • All materials will be provided
