Tutor Brian Holmshaw is running an 12-week evening class for the WEA, called Know Your Sheffield – A Local History of the City. A well-established course using images, maps and documents of the period. There will be two site visits. Tuesday evenings, 5.30-7.30pm, for 12 weeks from 17 September 2019 at The Circle (Voluntary Action Sheffield), Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW
Course aim
To provide a chronology of Tudor, Stuart, C18th and early C19th Sheffield and explain key historical buildings and industrial, social and political change in that period.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- understand the chronology of Tudor, Stuart, C18th and early C19th Sheffield
- identify a range of people who influenced the development of the City in this period
- understand key aspects of the industrial processes that contributed to the growth of Sheffield
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
What else do I need to know?
- All materials will be provided
- A notebook or laptop to take notes would be useful if you wish to bring one
