Italian Level 2

Students on this course will have completed 2 years or more of study, or will have an equivalent level of the language. The course will allow students to revise and expand their command of Italian, whilst adding considerably to their vocabulary and increasing their knowledge of Italian grammar. The course will be based on the BBC book Italianissimo, with additional material and more advanced grammar points where necessary, and will include audio and video. At the end of the year, you will have increased your abilities in all 4 skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking, with the emphasis on communication. During the course you will also practise using numbers in various situations. You will also learn about Italy, the country and its varied cultures.

Course aim

To improve the student's ability to converse in and understand Italian when visiting Italy.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand how to improve my pronunciation
  • understand a number of new and revised grammar and language points
  • talk about the Italian language and its recent history
  • be more fluent in conversing in various situations
  • use numbers in various situations

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • The course will be based on the BBC publication Italianissimo, along with other more advance material to be provided by the tutor. CDs are also available, although not required for the course.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • This is the third year of the course, where some students started from the beginning. We anticipate that the course will run for three terms this year, and may continue into the following academic year depending on demand. This course is progressive.
