This course allows you to be creative. You will use numerous techniques to make gifts and items for your home, including producing a range of Christmas themed craft items and decorations, making and decorating gift boxes and bags, greetings cards for different occasions including stamping, embossing and iris folding. You will learn to use die cutting machines. Make bracelets and a necklace and design your own earrings. Make a mosiac table mat to your own pattern. Learn in a relaxing, fun and friendly environment.

Course aim

To teach learners a variety of craft techniques including jewellery making, Christmas crafts, paper crafts, card making and how to produce gifts and items for your home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make small gifts
  • Make a range of jewellery items e.g necklace, bracelet
  • Decorate gift bags or boxes using papers, ribbon and your own choice of materials
  • Select and work on my own chosen projects, to learn new or to consolidate my existing skills
  • Make cards to three themes using, stamping, embossing and iris folding

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • Verbal feedback

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Items needed for the course will be discussed at the first session e.g scissors, measure, pencil etc

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
