French Level 2

Ref: C3676362

A continuing level 2 course. This year we will be using The French Experience 2 - a BBC publication covering many aspects of life in France and other French-speaking countries. During the year we will cover the following: languages and French-speaking countries; talking about the languages you speak; talking about your nationality and origins; money and spending power, and differences in income, spending, and means of earning a living across the French-speaking world. All 4 skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking, are developed, with the emphasis on communication. Students will cover all relevant grammar points as they arise, along with developing their skills with numbers. Audio and video will help students to develop their listening and comprehension throughout the course.

Course aim

To continue to develope the students' ability to converse in and understand French as a visitor to France or other French-speaking countries.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Participants will have studied French at beginner level or will be returning to the language after previous studies, or have some prior knowledge of the language by other means. If in doubt, please contact the course tutor.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • talk about what languages you speak, where you come from, and your origins.
  • understand what the French language means to its speakers, whether as a first or second language, in their everyday lives
  • understand more about life in various French-speaking countries
  • understand various grammar points as discussed along the way
  • have further developed my skills in numbers

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • The course book is BBC The French Experience 2. This can be obtained with the CDs. This is not necessary for the course, but would enable listening outside the classroom if desired, and is therefore recommended.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • Access the WEA What Next? booklet here http://www.wea.org.uk/learn-wea/what-can-i-do-next
  • This is the second year of the Talk French based course. Students may have the opportunity to progress to Improvers' level next year.
