Body Parts - How to look after them

We will look at internal structures of the skeleton and digestive system as well as external structures. including the skin, teeth and eyes. You will have an opportunity to make and label models, learn some new scientific terms, and discuss the importance of healthy lifestyles and regular check ups to support good structure and function of these body parts. We will look at the effect of advertising on making decisions about our health. we will also use numerical skills to compare costs of maintaining the health of these 5 body parts.

Course aim

A brief introduction to five body parts with a view to developing a greater appreciation of how a healthy lifestyle is important in their structure and function.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Name 4 parts of the skeleton and be able to read those words.
  • Give three reasons for the need to have healthy teeth.
  • Label a diagram of the eye with the words, lens, cornea, retina and optic nerve.
  • List three important foods that help with digestive function
  • Divide a list of skin products into essential or non essential

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
