This course will explore the lives & works of a range of women artists from different periods and the representation of women in Art. Work by women artists will be considered within the cultural context & gender boundaries. Fully illustrated with discussion.

To explore the work of a range of women artists from different periods and the representation of women in Art. Fully illustrated with discussion

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material and themes studied
  • View, analyse & discuss a wide range of examples of paintings
  • Consider the wider context within which the works were produced, in terms of social, historical, gender issues
  • Realise the significance of the works within the wider art historical context
  • Understand the background of the artists studied

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • A notebook and pen may be of use for making notes
