Soft and gentle movement combined with a set breathing pattern that helps you experience a feeling of relaxation and peace. It is good for balance, co-ordination, flexibility and a great way of relieving stress. You will be amazed how good you will feel and it's fun!

Course aim

To progress the learner's Tai Chi in a supportive and nurturing manner in order to encourage and stimulate stamina, better control of body, aid general health and well-being, inner peace and manage stress in a natural and non-intrusive manner

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Run through warming-up exercises and breathing techniques taught
  • Carry out various Tai Chi forms/patterns including Greeting the Early Morning Mist, Crane Makes Ready, Peacock Wags its tail and nods its Head, Ba Duan Yin. All aided by Tutor with one-to-ones as requried by tutor
  • Introduce Yang 8 Step as applicable aided by Tutor
  • Achieve a sense of calmness and ability to relax from Tai Chi itself and relaxation techniques
  • Follow the safety guidelines as laid down by tutor

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • An open mind and a smile.
