Course aim

This session will explore a selection of the vast range of Madonna & Child paintings produced in the Renaissance, considering differences in approaches by the artists.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
  • Understand the background context to the production of the works
  • Compare the approaches of different Renaissance artists to the same subject
  • Realise the significant quantity of Madonna and Child works produced during the Italian Renaissance
  • Consider the way in which Religious subject matter dominated the output of the Italian Renaissance

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • A notebook and pen may be useful for taking notes
