Local Tudor Inventories

During this course we will study copies of original Tudor documents to examine the domestic lives of local residents some 500 years ago. We will look into their houses, stables and yards to see how life was lived in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Course aim

In this short course we will look into the domestic lives of some of Barton's inhabitants during the Tudor period.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Read typical Tudor handwriting.
  • Gain an appreciation of the layout and furnishings of typical Tudor houses locally.
  • See the lifestyles of inhabitants in Barton of the period
  • Compare and contrast Tudor domestic life and 21st century domestic life.
  • Appreciate the local surroundings through the wider concept of 500 years of history.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
