During this course you will learn the basic stitches and techniques of crochet. We will look at different types of hooks and yarns as well as learning the 5 basic stitches needed to get started with crochet.
Course aim
Students will learn about different crochet hooks and yarns, as well as the basic stitches and techniques required to get started with crochet.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify the properties of different crochet hooks and yarns.
- Produce a crochet chain.
- Demonstrate the basic crochet stitches, including double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet and slip stitch.
- Read a crochet pattern and read crochet charts
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
What else do I need to know?
- All materials will be provided
- You are welcome to bring your own yarn or hooks if you wish but enough materials will be provided
