The Life and Music of JS Bach: 1685-1750

Ref: C3676044

An investigation and appreciation of the music of JS Bach. This includes the music of composers that influenced Bach and composers that, in turn, were influenced by Bach. Much of Bach’s life is a mystery, but there are certain events in his life that are fascinating. How did such an unhappy time in Bach’s life result in him composing some of the most uplifting and beautiful music, ever? In addition, we shall look at how Bach’s music influenced the music of other genres, too, such as ‘pop’ and jazz. We will listen to and discuss Bach’s cantatas, keyboard music and orchestral compositions, in relation to Bach’s personal and private life. We will also look at the lives and works of the composers that influence the great man.
