Macrame Basics

You will explore the four basic knots; larks head, half knot, double hitch knot and square knot. You will create a small wall hanging by following a pattern, a step by step demonstration or make up your own with the materials that you have. If you have attended previous Macramé courses you will can explore new knots such as Josephine knot and gathering knot, you can also begin to follow written patterns or have support creating your own patterns.

Course aim

You will explore the four basic knots that are the staple to any Macrame piece. You will make a small wall hanging from either following a pattern or step by step demonstration.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore and use Larks head knot
  • Explore and use half knot
  • Explore and use square knot
  • Explore and use double hitch knot
  • Create a small macramé piece

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
