This course will provide a chance to reminisce about days gone by from: childhood memories, school days, work and careers, memorable life adventures, family and home life, the world of entertainment and famous people and moments in time. Everyone's life is unique and special and this course will give you a voice to tell your life story, share life lessons and enjoy hearing about and relating to the life journey of others.

Course aim

To create a fun, friendly, and supportive environment where people can come together to share their life stories, find common ground and also increase their appreciation of their life journeys and take pride in their life achievements.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Talk with greater confidence to others about my personal stories
  • Recall memories and information about the past
  • Work collaboratively with others in the group

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • The tutor will encourage learners to give regular feedback to help with the on-going development and content of the course to ensure that it reflects the needs and interests of individuals and the group as a whole.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • You will be encouraged, on occasions, to bring in your own items from home to help stimulate discussions. However, if it is not possible this will not negatively impact your learning on the course.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Further extended independent research and project work covering discussion topics from the course.
