This chair-based yoga class will help to increase your flexibility and range of movements, and improve your body awareness and alignment. It will assist you in controlling and utilising your breath correctly and help you to concentrate and focus, as well as relax more effectively.

Course aim

To demonstrate and guide students through warm-ups, yoga postures, movements and sequences. To promote awareness of good posture, correct breathing and relaxation of body and mind.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improve awareness of body and breath to highlight tension.
  • Execute gentle movements, including forward and backward bends, lateral and lengthening stretches, rotations and twists.
  • Work on my powers of focus and concentration through hand gestures and using focal points.
  • Practise various breathing techniques in order to correct poor habits and increase lung capacity.
  • Experience different relaxation techniques to calm body and mind,

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
