Beginners Italian - year 2

This is an ongoing course. It is aimed at people who have already studied Italian for at least one year and have a basic knowledge of the Italian language, but keen to develop it further. The course will focus on oral, listening and speaking skills, but also reading and writing, so that the student will be able to communicate effectively. Being focused on communicative skills, an active participation during the classes will be encouraged. Each term will cover a different topic designed to broaden the learner's understanding of Italian society, culture and lifestyle.

Course aim

This is an ongoing course. It will enable you to develop language skills and will equip you with the confidence and appropriate knowledge to communicate in and understand Italian

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • being an ongoing course, the present tense, the present perfect, articles, numbers and other things have been already covered. If you are joining the class this year it would be useful to know all of these things. If you want to check your level, ask the WEA to put you in contact with the tutor.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • talk about buying habits
  • buy food and other things in a shop in Italy, expressing my desires and my preferences
  • understand and share recipes
  • talk about an aspect of the Italian culture
  • Understand simple passages and written material in Italian

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • a notebook, pencil or pen
