This exciting course is run in partnership with the Yorkshire Energy Doctor, a not for profit organisation supporting people to get the best prices for their energy use. The course teaches you everything you need to know about energy use, including, how to understand your energy bills, how to use energy comparison sites to get the best deal for your energy use, how to change your energy supplier, how to make savings in your energy use, what grants and financial assistance is available to help people to pay their energy bills, how to assist others to review their energy bills and usage, reviewing the energy efficiency of your boiler and managing problems with your energy supplier/s.

Course aim

This is an exciting course to learn how to manage your energy usage, review your energy bills, and get the best deal for your gas, electricity, oil and water. You will also learn about support available to help people manage their energy bills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand my energy bills
  • use the online energy comparison resources to research the best energy deals for myself and others
  • understand how to change my energy supplier and how the process works
  • how to reduce my energy use
  • understand what support is available to assist people with their energy bills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • Nothing else is needed

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
