The course explores why do we think the way we think, why do we behave the way we do, why are we different from others and what explanations psychologists might offer.

Course aim

This psychology course will enable you to understand basic psychological concepts, understand yourself, your identity and the way you think.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how psychologists do their research.
  • Understand our moral nature for example the idea of altruism.
  • Understand the impact of the physical environment on how we think, feel and behave.
  • Recognise the influence of the culture we were born into and live in.
  • Think about individual differences for example how no two of us are like.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
