Make a book that is all about you using a variety of creative processes.

Course aim

To engage with wellbeing through creative activity. This course is for service users of HFT only and is not open to the general public.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Engage with wellbeing. Work with the "5 ways to wellbeing" to improve confidence and reduce social isolation.
  • Use techniques and processes. Learn and develop skills in printmaking, sewing, collage and textile work.
  • Use design. Make a book that includes things that you like and are interested in.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines on this course.
  • Engage with activities. Take part in sessions with support from staff and tutor

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be invited to bring objects and pictures from home to help make your book all about you.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Use confidence gained to engage in further creative activity at the centre and maybe at home.
