Henna Designs

The course will introduce you to a range of henna arts and craft skills such as rolling a cone and filling with paint, drawing simple henna-style designs on items e.g. Candles, wooden trinket boxes, key rings, notebooks and much more! You will also learn to use acrylic paints and gems with wax pencils to decorate items. You will learn how to research and design a henna design, adapt, plan and execute as well as evaluate the better and worse parts of the finished design. The course will show you how everyday items found in your home can be upcycled creating a unique new look. You will be able to create beautiful keepsake items for yourself, your family and friends, ideal for any occasion. The possibilities are truly endless!

Course aim

This course will teach different ways to decorate items using henna-style art techniques with a focus on upcycling items found in the home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Roll a cellophane cone
  • Fill and seal a cellophane cone
  • Use a paint cone to create a design
  • Add gems to your designs using wax pencils
  • Seal your design using appropriate sealant

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
