In a relaxed in friendly atmosphere come and try your hand at acrylic painting. Discover the flexible and creative nature of this medium under the expert tutelage of a professional artist, who has her own painting practice and also has many years experience teaching, see her work at www.bsaskew.wixsite.com/artist. By the end of the course you will have; completed several paintings in acrylic, learned a variety of techniques, practised some colour mixing principles, discovered how light can create form, experimented with tone and texture, met new friends and had a great time painting with this medium.

Course aim

This course is designed to provide you with information and practical application needed to get you started/progress in Acrylic painting, with a view to applying your knowledge at home with your own painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Construct an acrylic painting
  • Demonstrate the technique of Blocking out
  • Demonstrate the practice of colour mixing
  • Use light to create form
  • Use various painting techniques, such as glazes, scumbling and blending

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The tutor will give you home work if you would like some

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • This course will be taught in a variety of ways, from step by step, to individual tuition and help, group crits, discussion and ILPs

What else do I need to know?

  • bring set of Synthetic paint brushes. Newspaper. water pot. pencil. rubber. set of acrylic paints 75ml or above. Canvases, canvas boards or acrylic paper (if using paper you will need masking tape and a board to tape to. palate. Apron. If you require information about this, contact course leader.
