Everyday Greek

This course is designed to help you develop further your basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Greek. You will also gain an insight into the Greek lifestyle and culture. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, you will be introduced to some useful everyday language and you will have plenty of opportunity to practise key words and phrases in a fun and enjoyable way through a variety of activities (including pictures, games and roleplays). You will also learn about some Greek customs and traditions. Topics include making enquiries at the tourist information office and speaking to a pharmacist about minor ailments. Handouts will be given out to help you revise at home what you learn in class.

Course aim

To expland your previous knowledge of Greek with some more everyday language you need for a visit to Greece / Cyprus and to give you an insight into the Greek lifestyle and culture.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Prior knowledge of Greek is required. If you are not sure whether this course is suitable for you please ring WEA on 0300 303 3464 and ask to speak to the tutor.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Request information about places of interest at the tourist information office (e.g. what there is to see, opening hours, how to get there, ticket prices).
  • Describe minor ailments and ask a pharmacist for advice and / medication.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will regularly receive informal feedback at various points during the course to help you progress.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring a pen or pencil, a notepad and a ring-binder or folder to keep your work in.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA Greek language course starting after Easter that will build on the knowledge you acquire on this course.
