Consolidate the basics of the Spanish language, develop your vocabulary and improve your pronunciation. Understand and use key phrases when meeting people, introducing yourself and others and talking about the place where you live. Learn some useful vocabulary and expressions to find your way around, understand instructions to get to places of interest and be able to say something about the places you have visited. Develop your confidence practising your speaking skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Course aim

To consolidate previous knowledge of Spanish, build up vocabulary and develop confidence speaking Spanish when meeting people, finding out where the places are, understanding instructions to get there, and talking about the places you have visited.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course will benefit the students interested in consolidate previous knowledge and expand it learning new vocabulary and phrases.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Introduce yourself and others ( family members, friends).
  • Understand and use questions for personal information and spell your name.
  • Say where you are from and where you live and give a lttle information about these places.
  • Understand and use basic expressions to find your way around: ask questions such as Is there a bank near here?, Where is it?, be able to understand instructions.
  • Say what places you have visited on holidays and what you think of a place.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • You need to bring: a notebook and a pen. It can be useful to have a file to keep some handouts/exercise papers. The tutor will give you information on some books, dictionaries and other resources that can support your learning, and suggest how to use any resources you may already have.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • You can refresh your previous knowledge of Spanish by: visiting BBC languages http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/talk just reading any phrase book you may have or your notes from previous courses.

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
