Come along and learn painting and drawing skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The course is suitable for beginners or those who would like to further develop their painting and drawing skills. Designed with themed sessions that will enable you to explore effective techniques, materials and equipment at your own pace and level of experience. If you prefer, individual projects can also be undertaken within the course. The tutor will support you to develop the skills required to complete your chosen subject area and create an effective piece of artwork. You will be able to learn about different approaches to painting and drawing, how to observe and capture the essence of what you are looking at, the characteristics of painting and drawing media, and most of all, develop your own individual creative style. Course aim

A short themed five week course aimed at adults who would like to learn or improve painting and drawing skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Paint an atmospheric sky demonstrating proficiency in observation and painting, using techniques learnt within the course, showing progression
  • Create a study inspired by the theme circus demonstrating proficiency in observation, drawing and painting, using techniques learnt within the course, showing progression
  • Paint or draw a figure demonstrating proficiency in observation, human proportion, painting and drawing , using techniques learnt within the course, showing progression
  • Create an equine study demonstrating proficiency in observation, drawing and painting, using techniques learnt within the course, showing progression
  • Create a painting of earth from space demonstrating proficiency in observation, drawing and painting , using techniques learnt within the course, showing progression

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A limited range of materials and basic equipment will be available to support learners each week. Please bring your own additional materials to each session, Further advice regarding materials will be provided at the start of the course.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Further Art courses can be offered as a progression from this five week course. Exploring a wider range of art activities, themes and new learning outcomes that meet individual learner and group needs and aspirations.
