Sarah Grand's The Heavenly Twins

Ref: C3531119

This course will study just one novel by Sarah Grand, her 1893 work The Heavenly Twins. In this long work Grand provides a critique of the late nineteenth-century social scene and explores the position of women through the three main heroines of the novel. Grand sought to explore, through fiction, the conspiracy of silence that so often surrounded the lives of women and focuses her attention on key issues that affected them. Sarah Grand is considered one of the New Women novelists of the late nineteenth century and this course will also make further suggestions for other new women writers that students might wish to read.
