Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is for all students who wish to improve and extend their knowledge of French both spoken and written. A good basic knowledge of French is required and a willingness to converse with others in class is helpful.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • An improved ability to read aloud clearly and with confidence (Read French)
  • Initiate and participate in conversation in French with a greater degree of confidence
  • Practise writing in French researching vocabulary and using varied tenses
  • Listen to French spoken at native speed and answer related questions
  • Solve word puzzles and complete exercises in building a knowledge of French grammar

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be encouraged to complete a written homework task during the five week term. You will be given an article to read in preparation for the next lesson

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Written work will be marked with comments for improvement. Students progress will be monitored at each session.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring an A4 folder preferably with with plastic wallets to hold handouts, class work and homework. File paper, pens, verb tables,a good dictionary or your device for checking vocabulary will be needed.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Reading French magazines or online articles and/or watching French films would be helpful.
