Drawing Workshop

The course will give give learners a chance to explore a variety of drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, pen and ink wash and be introduced to different techniques for using them in a supportive and relaxed environment. There will be a range of reference materials in the form of varied imagery for learners to work from and practise using a chosen medium and technique to produce a work or works which they can keep at the end of the session. The emphasis will not be on delivering a formal session but one where students can relax and enjoy learning through trying out different mediums, processes and hopefully become more aware of the many different approaches available within drawing.

Course aim

To give learners an opportunity to use a range of drawing materials and techniques in a welcoming environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a range of drawing materials and techniques
  • Produce at least one drawing, (A4) or (A3)
  • Reflect on their own achievements and identify areas of interest

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

This course is funded by the West of England Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
